What Language Professionals Need to Know About Writing for Publication in Biomedical Journals
生物医学論文雑誌への投稿～アクセプトされる論文を執筆するには～
Manuscripts submitted for publication in peer-reviewed biomedical journals undergo a rigorous review before they are either accepted or rejected. Rejection rates of competitive journals can be as high as 90%. To be acceptable for publication, manuscripts must satisfy general as well as journal-specific requirements, while conforming to numerous stylistic conventions.
In this presentation I will describe how language professionals can develop an understanding of what editors and reviewers look for in a paper, and how they can add value to their service by not only delivering a manuscript that meets all requirements for publication, but also providing the client with appropriate advice on various aspects of the submission and peer-review process, thus increasing the chances of acceptance.

Raoul Breugelmans received a double-major BA in Linguistics and Japanese from the University of Oregon in 1987, and then completed the Master and Doctoral courses in Japanese Linguistics at Meiji University in Tokyo.
After working as a freelance medical translator and lecturing part-time in Medical English, he became Assistant Professor in 2002, and is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Education of Tokyo Medical University.
He serves as Director of the Japan Society for Medical English Education, Councilor of the Japan Society for Medical Education, and Director of the Japanese Society of Travel Medicine.
He has assisted numerous Japanese clinicians in publishing their research in the international literature.
His academic interests include ICT-enhanced education, applied linguistics and medical education, and one of his hobbies is making vintage-style jeans. He has been in Japan since 1988.

Session 1
「NASH（非アルコール性脂肪性肝炎）について」
＜概要＞アルコールをほとんど飲まない人に起こる脂肪肝の中に、肝硬変や一部では肝癌へと進行する可能性のある病態、NASHが存在します。NASHの概念や診断・治療などについて、一般市民の方にもわかりやすい内容でお話したいと思います。
＜登壇者プロフィール＞
徳毛宏則 （とくもひろのり）
広島大学医学部卒、医学博士。広島大学付属病院、米国クリーブランドクリニック研究員等を経て1995年以降JA広島総合病院勤務。現在、副病院長、消化器内科主任部長、内視鏡センター長等を務める。NASH，胆道系の疾患を専門とする傍ら、消化器内視鏡の専門医として胃瘻への造詣が深く、著書には「経皮内視鏡胃瘻造設術」（新興医学出版社）などがある。

肝胆道系疾患，脂質胆汁酸代謝，非アルコール性脂肪性肝炎の臨床，胃瘻関連手技，消化器内視鏡および腹部超音波による診断と治療

「桃栗三年恥かき十年」
＜概要＞
2004年に脱サラし、2005年から特許翻訳者として活動を始め、恥をかき、涙を流し、冷汗を拭い、試行錯誤を繰り返してきた十年間。この間のエピソードを冒頭の自己紹介に代え、メインは技術翻訳のミニ講座と白熱ディスカッション、最後は辞書の最新動向に触れます。ミニ講座では、犯しやすい誤訳のパターンや知っておくと役立つ小ネタなども紹介します。
＜登壇者プロフィール＞
松田浩一（まつだこういち）
横浜在住の特許翻訳者。長年SONYで開発系エンジニアを務め、一念発起して2004年春に早期退職し、2005年秋よりフリーランスの特許翻訳者として独立して今日に至る。専門分野は電子・電気/通信・ネットワーク/機械系。特許翻訳者としての仕事を軸足に、翻訳学校講師を兼務し、SNSの翻訳コミュニティも数多く主宰。元気の源は愛犬と愛猫。辞書と音楽とiPhoneが三種の神器。ニックネームはMatt(マット)。
